  There are a huge variety of plants and trees.Plants &trees take up water and nutrients from soil through the roots.The green colouring in leaves & stems is called chlorophyll. It is important for photosynthesis - the process by which plants make sugar from carbon dioxide and water. The sugar is then used by the plant as energy for growth.
